今年はなかなか気温が上がらない春でしたが、6月になり、晴天であれば日中は20度を超え、庭の染料植物達が育ってきました。今年は、昨年種を蒔いたウォードから、ウォードボールを作り、昨年までに作り発酵ー乾燥したウォードボールで2回目の発酵を行い、ウォードすくもを作る予定です。

すくも藍の仕込みから48時間経過、最初は液面のあちらでパチ、こちらでパチと音がして、徐々に感覚がパチ、パチと短くなり、液面にできた藍色の泡が弾ける音だとわかります。すくも藍と仕込みからの経過、状態によって、聞こえる音の強さが違い、発酵が安定するまでの時間も違います。
このすくも藍発酵液はとても染色性が高く、羊原毛やウール布、楮繊維や楮紙、苧麻布、生成綿を淡色から濃色まで彩度が高い藍色に染まります。
ウォードボール、順調に発酵して乾燥した。量がまとまったら、もう一度発酵させる。ferment and dry all, then ferment again Sukumo like compost.

工房で建てているすくも藍、ウォードすくも、琉球藍、インド藍の灰汁と小麦麩による発酵建液の染色性をあげる研究続け、インジゴと微生物達の関係を明らかにしたい。
